Brainworks offers a truly unique approach which distinquishes our program from standard tutorial services.
Testing- The client undergoes an intensive four hour evaluation of skills and mental ability. After testing, parents (or the adult client) are given both a detailed written evaluation of the findings and a thorough review of the results in a conference with Brainworks' director, Carla Crutsinger. (If the client is grade six or above, the client also attends this interpretation.) In this review, the client's own goals are determined so a specific remediation plan, tailored to fit that individual's needs, can be developed by our Educational Coordinators. These staff members are certified teachers specializing in various fields such as special education, math, language arts, social studies, gifted education, and motor skills.
Remediation Plans- The staff can draw upon more than 2,000 materials and activities in our center to create a plan which addresses the specific situation of the client. These plans sometimes include activities which go beyond academics, including critical thinking, creativity, social skills, time management, and personal development.
One-On-One Tutoring/Monitoring- Every client works one-on-one with a tutor on the activities in the lesson plan. In a typical two hour block of tutoring, the client will participate in 8 activities; the tutors provide feedback every fifteen minutes so we can accurately measure the client's performance and adjust the lesson plans to insure the client progresses at the optimum pace. In addition, instructors contact the client's school and teachers on a regular basis to monitor the impact of the program on classroom performance.
Progress Reports/Conferences- Two of the aspects of our program most appreciated by parents and clients are the written progress reports and monthly conferences on the specific activities with which the client has worked. These reports provide observational information as well as evaluative data to present a total picture of the client's achievements.
Summer Programs- Brainworks' summer programs offer a special opportunity to combine rapid academic progress and skill-building with friendship and fun in a lively, positive setting. The fundamental elements of the regular sessions remain; however, the summer program's compact and intense curriculum contributes to the development of students as they become independent learners who take pleasure in acquiring knowledge. Perhaps the most significant advantage of the summer program is the factor of social interaction. Students are given a chance to interact with people their own age as well as develop trusting relationships with their instructors. Clients are encouraged to assume personal responsibilities in a supportive group situation.
